WebTrain Critique

We found the layout simple and the site easy to navigate. The links were grouped accordingly and the navigation bar was strategically placed and was easily noticed on all pages. The RSS button on the upper right corner was very noticeable and the incorporation of this technology is very helpful to WebTrain’s users. On the upper right hand corner, a link to the list of meetings was provided. The presence of such a link helps direct users quickly to the most important page of the website. The meetings in this page are grouped depending on whether it is live or upcoming. At the bottom of the page are links to the more frequently visited pages of the website. Though a bit small, the links serve its purpose.

On the other hand, the bookmark link, placed on top of the RSS button, could be improved by making it larger although the blinking image beside it helped attract attention. The login and registration link were small as well. It would have been better to place input fields similar to what other sites do to facilitate easier login.

On a general level, the aesthetics of the site is not something to look forward to. Its simplicity led to a boring site. Furthermore, some pages contain huge blocks of text that are not enticing. The grey text on top of a blue grey background is one of the contributing factors why the text is not enticing to read. Despite these, the site is functional and that should take precedence over aesthetic value. The continued existence of the service is a testament to the website’s functionality. Though plain, it has served its purpose.

  3. I have to agree that the aesthetics of the site is really not that enticing. The layout is so simple and the colors used are dull.

However, i think the market the site really wants to capture is that of the professionals who engage in business meetings with clients in distant places. Thus, these businessmen are not really into the layout but more on the applications the site has. And since the site's features are good, the aesthetics doesn't matter that much anymore.

Improving the site's visual presentation will not hurt though.

As a whole, "Though plain, it has served its purpose."

  5. I have to agree that when I saw the website. it was dull but NOT boring. I guess, they are not just into colors. :D I liked the layout. It's simple, but hey! Everything you need is really there. The simplicity of the site only strengthens the mandate of beauty in simplicity. From the looks of it, it is very professional.

From what the group has enumerated, I have to say that Webtrain is a very, very nice site. The navigation is as easy as -1,-2,-3 [for a change:D]. It will be of great use to US someday. That I know.

The website doesn't look inviting but it is very useful. It may be useful to some businesses but not to all. They still need to have a computer and webcam to be able to use the site. I think nothing beats real-time conferencing compared to web conferencing.

Anyhow, the website is just amazing for different purposes.

  7. the review is concise and informative. webtrain is such a blessing for businesses. it provides convenience to a lot of people. with its features, transactions costs of firms will be reduced, thus greater productivity. on the other hand, it might diminish the quality of what had used to be personal conferences. it might create an artificial environment that may not be very beneficial for its users in the long run. i believe, it is imperative for us students to take advantage of the site's features.
i would like to commend the group for a nice review, including the cute screenshots. :D

  8. This is a very detailed and professional review! Good Job!

And I have to agree with Marlon, the purpose of Web Train Communications is purely professional. Thus, functionality trumps aesthetic any day.

Though, it could probably attract a bigger market if it is pretty as well!!

Beauty and brains is a deadly combination. :P

If this site is also aesthetically pleasing while giving the users the option to add their own personal touch; then more people, especially students, would take advantage of this site.

It is innovative and flexible, taking into account the time, place and cost constraints of its users.

    Good Job!
