Delicious.com

Don’t you just love seeing the array of foods that you can choose from in a grand buffet? If you want the endless choices of websites whether they are new, old, exotic, exciting or resourceful, delicious.com is here to help you! Delicious is a social bookmarking site, which is ranked fairly high, placing 2695th rank according to Alexa. Main users come from USA holding 26.9%, followed by India, China, Germany and the UK.

This website allows the users to visit different Internet websites that were not know to them or were not able to find them. When the users do not have enough time to surf the site they want, or do not want to lose the information of that website, Delicious.com allows them to bookmark the website and revisit the site anytime in the future when they have time.

The website also allows users to tag, save, manage, and share web pages all in one place. It allows the users to bookmark any site in the Internet and additionally, one can see the same bookmarks that one has made using different computers.

Delicious makes it possible and easy to keep track of all websites and keep them in sync. Users are not limited to the individually created bookmarks but open to the bookmarks of friends or anyone visiting the site. They could click on 'popular tags' to look into sites that are interesting to the other users and they could also look into the sites that others have saved as their bookmark!

The bookmarks arrange themselves according to the tags that they were assigned to by the users. So if one has found a site about Filipino food, and tags it as 'Filipino' and 'food', the website could be found under those tags. Easy! :) loads of sites would burst out per tag!

As you open the website, you see a list of popular bookmarks and a list of popular tags such as art, reference, tutorials, photography to name a few. The list is made as a compilation of the most visited bookmarks, and the most clicked tags by users of delicious.com.

For businesses or for certain people like artists or cooks, having their website marked as a popular bookmark or be included in the list of popular tags may be an advantage since it increases the chance that people may visit their page and of course, see what they have to offer, which may eventually lead to a sale. In short, delicious.com is a tool for sharing of valuable and interesting information, and it may also be used for indirect advertising, which can be viewed as a business value of the website.

Critique

Pros:- Its first and foremost advantage is that it is personalized. You can make your own categories to group your bookmarked websites. You can also edit your profile.

- This website provides benefits of being able to access wanted sites anytime the user wishes to. It is well organized and user friendly in the sense that even the first timers can actually use it without difficulty. There is a demo tour and a “getting started” action for beginners.

- The search engine is also smarter, and more social. (As aforementioned above) you can search within one of your tags, another user’s public bookmarks, or your social network. Now it’s easier to take advantage of the expertise and interests of your friends, not to mention the Delicious community at large.

- The Delicious Team is constantly transitioning Delicious over to a new platform that would be of advantage to users. Delicious.com former website name is del.icio.us.com, which is obviously hard for people to remember, find the site and share it with their friends. The Delicious team is not just hearing out requests and questions of the users but they are putting these into actions. The new website is faster to traffic growth while ensuring that Delicious is still reliable. The bookmarks are sorted alphabetically and categorized into bundles of interest.

- The Delicious Team are actually replying to the messages of the users and trying to address their concerns. It only shows that the team is concerned with their users.

Cons:
- One needs to download the add-on first before one can use it. It’s a waste of time for someone who avail computer rentals. He/she can only log in to his/her account but to make use of it, he/she has to download the add-on all over again.

- The page needs some work. The font is too small and the bookmarks look a little crowded. The page should be colored brighter to make it more exciting to look at.

  2. At first, I thought that delicious.com is about food stuffs. But, it is all about saving/ bookmarking your favorite sites in just one website.

i agree that delicious.com is not hard to remember. it's a good move that they changed their site's name.

on the other hand, for me, it is really time-consuming for people who don't have PC at home before they can view or access delicious.com. this is a disappointing fact.

the group provides informative critique. Good Job!

and i agree that delicious.com must improve their page aesthetically. =)

  3. The site's name is misleading. I really thought that it is something about food. And I was really finding anything on the review that would relate to it. Well, I guess that was the site's way to make it inviting. Now it makes me wonder if the site's high rank was because there were really a lot of users or people are just curious of its name.

Delicious.com is just like those ordinary social bookmarking sites. Their concern on their customers is what made me like the site. User's satisfaction is a major thing in web sites.

*The group made a nice review especially on the critique part. It really made me think if I should try using the site....

  4. It seems that the site's name is a big deal to its audience. It does capture the curiosity of the people. It would be better if the group included some trivia about the site's name.

As for me, I think the site is named as such because it somehow acts as a refrigerator where you save your favorite dishes, or in this case websites. So every time you open the site, you just marvel at the array of sites listed, and say: "Hmmmmm...Delicious! Can't wait to have a taste of them" :)

I like the group's critique of the site, especially that they emphasized separately its pros and cons. Very good for comparison purposes.

The review is also informative. relevant information are presented. Good job!

  5. As what the group reviewer has said, Delicious.com is a social bookmarking website. It seeks to organize websites with particular contents that some viewers may find interesting and helful to whatever purposes they have. With the help of Delicious.com, gone are the days when one who is looking and researching about a subject will depend entirely on seach engines such as Yahoo.com and Google.com. Doing so is indeed exhausting and time consuming.

A business in search for particular information could benefit from using Delicious.com as it can use the website's structure to research about segments of their operations. For example, in order to stay in the competition existing in an industry, a business, regardless of its size, can register in Delicious.com to know latest methodologies applicable in its present condition of operation. In short, Deliciuos.com facilitates exchange of information over the internet between interested business entities.

The group's review was informative in the sense it provided the viewers the basic information, including user traffic data and some criticism on Delicious.com.

  7. Like the previous comments stated above, the site name is quite deceiving. I, too, thought it was site about food or something else related to food. Your review was very informative because it gave us an idea of what the website was truly all about.

You can easily find the websites that you need since you can there's a list of popular tags at the homepage. There's also a search bar which allows you to look for the site you want immediately. These tools make Delicious.com easy to use and navigate.

  8. The thing that I really like about this site is its ability to create a search engine created by real humans. When you search about a topic in this website, it gives you results which were derived not from complex mathematical algorithms as what is used in Google, but results which were sourced from the tags which people have put in a bookmarked site.

That is, a query of "Michael Jackson" in Google would give you : "Michael Jackson : Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia;" whereas in delicious it would be "The History of Michael Jackson's Face"

  9. such a great and catchy introduction. the site is interesting indeed, and so as the review. i am just wondering how a well known site like delicious isn't so popular here in the philippines.
social bookmarking is really a mark in the technological revolution.
i agree that the site should be further improved when it comes to aesthetics. i believe it should be more pleasing to the eyes of its users.
the review is informative and well-organized. on the other hand, it would have been more entertaining if they relate the last part to the introduction. but over-all, the review is excellent. (2 thumbs up)

  10. I really thought it was something about food!!!

Frankly, the website sounds great but the idea of downloading the add-on every time you use a different computer seems such a hassle.

Great review though! Just the right mix of objectivity and subjectivity. :D
